Second Year Project

Home From Home

Following the brief from the client, 9-11 Beck Street was transformed into a space for refugees, ran by Nottingham Refugee Forum; An organization based in Nottingham to aid in the transition of refugees into the local community.

Upon the discovery of the worrying number of child refugees (42% ), my manifesto was to create a space where these children could feel at home in a foreign place, until able to be relocated into a permanent suitable accommodation.

Iran was selected as the country of origin leading to the influence of prominent features of Iranian Architecture, entwined with the rich history of Nottingham, to create a Home away from Home.
Classrooms, living quarters and religious aspects have all been considered, with the key concept of “Homely” driving the design.
